SAAB 35D Draken (Dragon)

Personally - and I admit that I may be biased - I think this is the single most beautiful aircraft of the early-middle jet era of military aviation. The SAAB 35 Draken (Swedish for "Dragon") was a superb Mach 2 jet fighter which served in the Swedish, Finnish, Danish and Austrian air forces. Its innovative double delta configuration allowed for both safe low airspeed handling (something other contemporary supersonic fighters, such as the F-104 Starfighter, were struggling with) and less drag at high supersonic speeds.

These particular J35Ds belong to the Swedish Air Force F 4 wing, stationed on Frösö, Östersund, in Jämtland. The Draken was withdrawn from service in the Swedish Air Force in 1999. The F4 wing itself was shut down in 2005 as part of armed forces spending cuts.
